An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Public Services to join the Payroll team in a management position. Our reputable client is looking to recruit a keen, committed and self-motivated senior Payroll professional. The successful candidate will be able to hit the ground running and become the Senior member of the Payroll team, with management responsibility of a small team.

Due to the scale of the organisation, preference will be given to applicants who have run large payrolls, with monthly & weekly iterations, with a mixture of contract and pay types. The role does not offer hybrid working initially, and the post holder will be required to commute to an office based in Nottingham, there is parking available as well as excellent bus and tram links.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Oversee the smooth transition from in-house payroll operations to an outsourced payroll provider, ensuring compliance and minimal disruption
  • Work closely with internal teams and the external payroll provider to coordinate processes, resolve issues, and align goals
  • Review, refine, and implement payroll policies and processes to support the new outsourced structure
  • Ensure payroll operations meet all legal, tax, and regulatory requirements, and prepare accurate payroll reports for internal and external stakeholders
  • Act as the first point of contact for payroll queries, resolving discrepancies, and maintaining employee confidence throughout the transition

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience managing payroll for large organisations, including hands-on involvement with complex payroll systems – essential
  • Demonstrated success in leading or supporting the transition of payroll operations to an outsourced provider – preferred
  • Strong understanding of payroll-related tax, employment law, and regulatory compliance in the UK.
  • Ability to manage projects, timelines, and stakeholder communication effectively during system and process changes.
  • Experience in resolving payroll discrepancies and driving operational improvements in dynamic environments.
