Apprentice CAD Technician

Overview

Are you looking to start a career in CAD and 3D modelling, working on real-world engineering projects? Express Recruitment are delighted to be supporting an established engineering firm in their search for an Apprentice CAD Technician based in Nottingham.

This role is suited to someone who has recently completed, or is completing, A-levels, a BTEC, a T Level or equivalent and has an interest in design, technical drawing or engineering. Working alongside experienced engineers, you will develop practical skills in digital modelling, engineering drawings and point cloud workflows whilst contributing to infrastructure projects across the energy sector.

Skills & Experience
  • GCSE Mathematics and English at grade 4/C or above, or equivalent
  • Aptitude for design or drawing demonstrated through education, personal projects or a portfolio
  • Attention to detail and accuracy when working with drawings and models
  • Ability to visualise shapes, dimensions and spatial relationships
  • General computer skills and willingness to learn technical software
  • Willingness to ask questions and develop technical knowledge
Roles & Responsibilities
  • Create and update 3D digital models of pipework, equipment, supports and site layouts using point clouds, survey information and existing drawings
  • Use Autodesk ReCap to prepare and review point cloud data and develop models and drawings using AutoCAD and relevant 3D modelling tools
  • Produce piping isometric drawings, general arrangements, plans, elevations and detail drawings
  • Use Navisworks to review combined models, take measurements and support coordination reviews
  • Interpret engineers’ sketches, mark-ups, photographs and technical information and incorporate approved revisions into drawings and models
