Overview

Express Recruitment are representing a leading manufacturing organisation who are seeking an experienced Environmental Health and Safety Manager to oversee the implementation and maintenance of health, safety, and environmental programmes across the business. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring compliance with relevant regulations whilst promoting a ‘safety first’ working environment for all employees. 

Working closely with management, employees, regulatory agencies and cross-functional teams, the Environmental Health and Safety Manager will be responsible for developing and enforcing policies and procedures that protect the wellbeing of all stakeholders. 

Due to the nature of the role, the successful candidate will be required to work on their Loughborough manufacturing site five days a week. 

In return, the successful candidate will receive a comprehensive benefits package, including 25 days annual leave plus 8 bank holidays, a 6% employer pension contribution, enhanced company sick pay, group life assurance and private health insurance for the employee and their immediate family. 

Skills & Experience
  • Minimum Level 5 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent 
  • Demonstrable experience in Environmental Health and Safety management, preferably within a manufacturing or industrial setting 
  • Experience developing and implementing safety training programmes and managing safety committees 
  • In depth understanding of risk management principles and incident investigation techniques 
  • Internal Auditor certification for ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards 
  • AIEMA Foundation Certification in Environmental Management or equivalent 
  • Ability to travel occasionally to various company locations or sites as required 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify risks, analyse data, and develop effective solutions 
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously 
  • Ability to lead and influence others, fostering a culture of safety and accountability throughout the organisation 
Roles & Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures in line with Local Authority requirements 
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify potential hazards, assess risks, and recommend appropriate corrective actions 
  • Develop and deliver training programmes to educate employees on safety procedures, emergency response protocols, and environmental conservation practices 
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety programmes and initiatives, making necessary adjustments to ensure continuous improvement 
  • Investigate and report accidents, incidents, and near misses, analysing root causes and implementing preventative measures to minimise future occurrences 
  • Maintain and update Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and ensure compliance with hazard communication standards 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement ergonomic solutions, promote wellness initiatives, and mitigate occupational health risks 
  • Stay updated on relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations and industry best practices, communicating changes and updates throughout the organisation 
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies, participating in inspections, audits and Local Authority activities 
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures, and coordinate drills and exercises to ensure preparedness 
  • Carry out safety Risk Assessments prior to the commencement of new projects 
  • Take accountability for Health and Safety performance and establish Health and Safety goals across the organisation 
  • Lead and manage ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certifications, including the management of both internal and external audits 
  • Manage contractors working on site to ensure appropriate health and safety standards are maintained
