HGV Technical Advisor

Overview

Express Recruitment are delighted to be working in partnership with an established and growing commercial vehicle business to recruit an HGV Technical Advisor.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the company's commercial vehicle fleet remains safe, reliable, compliant and operationally efficient. Working closely with the wider fleet, workshop and operational teams, you will be responsible for maintaining high engineering standards and ensuring vehicles are available when required.

This is a hands-on position suited to an experienced commercial vehicle engineer who takes pride in their work, has strong technical knowledge and is confident diagnosing and resolving mechanical and electrical faults.

Skills & Experience
  • Qualified HGV Technician with engineering experience and good commercial vehicle knowledge.
  • Excellent technical diagnostic and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify faults, assess repair quality, and prevent repeat failures.
  • Good supplier management and negotiation skills, with the confidence to challenge costs, service levels, and technical decisions.
  • Good communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to manage difficult conversations and build credibility with suppliers, customers, and internal teams.
  • Commercial and analytical mindset, with attention to detail and confidence using fleet systems, data, Microsoft Office, and AI-enabled tools to improve fleet performance and control costs.
Roles & Responsibilities
  • Manage supplier performance by building strong relationships, negotiating SLAs, monitoring service levels, and challenging poor performance to ensure reliable maintenance support.
  • Maintain high technical and safety standards across the HGV fleet by reviewing repairs, diagnosing recurring issues, ensuring compliance, and reducing vehicle downtime.
  • Drive commercial performance through effective negotiation of repair costs, warranty claims, supplier pricing, and goodwill contributions while protecting fleet quality and customer service.
  • Lead engineering relationships and stakeholder communication by acting as a trusted technical point of contact for customers, suppliers, Fleet, Account Management, and senior management.
  • Drive continuous improvement and operational efficiency through data, fleet management systems, Microsoft Office, and AI-enabled tools to identify trends, improve reporting, reduce costs, and optimise fleet performance.
