Temporary Infrastructure Engineer

Overview

Express Recruitment are working in partnership with a well-established Local Authority who are seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to join their IT team on a full-time temporary basis for approximately 3 months.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced infrastructure professional to utilise their technical expertise within a local authority environment, supporting critical IT infrastructure, server environments, virtualisation, storage, backup and cloud technologies.

The successful candidate will ideally have a strong background in infrastructure engineering, with hands-on experience across Microsoft server technologies, VMware/Hyper-V, SAN storage, backup solutions and general data-centre operations.

Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience working within an Infrastructure Engineer, Infrastructure Support Engineer or similar technical role
  • Strong experience supporting Microsoft Windows Server environments
  • Hands-on experience with VMware vSphere and/or Microsoft Hyper-V
  • Experience with physical server hardware, server rooms and data-centre environments
  • Knowledge of SAN/storage technologies and experience working with enterprise storage solutions
  • Experience supporting backup and disaster recovery technologies
  • Experience with server migrations, upgrades, hardware installations and infrastructure projects
  • Knowledge of Microsoft technologies and cloud environments, ideally including Microsoft Azure
Roles & Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support and maintenance across the Council’s server and infrastructure estate
  • Install, configure, maintain and decommission physical and virtual server infrastructure
  • Manage and troubleshoot Windows Server environments, including server upgrades, maintenance and migrations
  • Support VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V environments, including virtual machine provisioning, fault investigation and maintenance
  • Monitor server, storage and infrastructure environments, identifying and resolving issues before they impact services
  • Support SAN and storage infrastructure, including capacity management, configuration and troubleshooting
  • Maintain and support backup and disaster recovery solutions, ensuring successful completion of scheduled backups and assisting with data recovery where required
  • Assist with infrastructure projects, including hardware upgrades, migrations, system implementations and equipment relocations
  • Investigate and resolve technical incidents across server, hardware, software, storage and virtualisation environments
