Temporary SEN Support Assistant – Nottingham

Overview

Express Recruitment are working with a highly respected Education Provision who are seeking a passionate SEN Support Assistant to deliver support to individuals up to age 16 with SEND, SEMH and behavioural challenges.

This role would predominantly suit someone with a cycling or outdoor activities background, including Scouts Leaders, Tour Guides or an individual who can demonstrate experience of supporting vulnerable people within the youth sector or similar.

If you think you would enjoy working in a bike hospital with SEN children and have an understand repairing of different types of bicycles, this role is for you!

Skills & Experience
  • Practical knowledge of bicycle repair and maintenance
  • Experience in outdoor activities or youth-focused environments, such as cycling, Scouts, Guides, outdoor education, youth work, tour guiding or similar
  • Able to identify and resolve common mechanical faults across different types of bicycles
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • A patient, resilient and supportive approach, with the ability to remain calm when managing challenging behaviour and adapt activities to meet individual learner needs
Roles & Responsibilities
  • Support learners within a practical bike workshop environment, assisting with bicycle repair and maintenance
  • Carry out and support basic bicycle repairs and maintenance, including identifying faults, repairing punctures, adjusting brakes and gears, replacing components and ensuring bikes are safe for use
  • Build positive and trusting relationships ensuring encouragement to engage young people who may experience barriers to learning
  • Ensure learners follow appropriate workshop, tool and cycling safety procedures while encouraging personal development
  • Provide tailored 1:1 and small-group support to young people aged up to 16 with SEND, SEMH and behavioural needs
